J2me Resources

Eclipse simply rocks.
I've been using intellij for quite some time,I liked it so much that I did not even think of using another IDE until j2mesupport plugin for intelliJ did not support breakpoint debugging.I was looking for alternatives and found this, eclipseME is very nicely done plugin for eclipse.
Except the intial hiccups for add-emulators/set-classpaths it worked great.
It supports all emulators (wtk, nokia, sonyericsson) instantly.

You can find real good tech tips about j2me and 3d mobile at sony ericsson developer site.
The java 3d games work reasonably well in supported devices.

An Eventful Year

I joined NID last year ,on June 20th.
I had good times and bad times there, but could not survive there for too long.
I quit NID after a semester, and started looking out for jobs.
I did some horrible mistakes of my life during that period, and finally joined LGSI.
I could not satistfy my technical desire at LG.After nearly 6 months,I started looking out again. Its been 20 days since I joined Yahoo!.
My friends Vamsi KVS and Deepak TVS have always been with me during this year.

New places,New friends,New Happenings.Lot more to go.
But this year has been eventful.

Sirivennela

Sirivennala Seetarama Sastry is my favorite lyricsit.I'm sure he is favorite for many others, infact who ever listens to telugu music.I can name so many songs which sounds great just because of his simple magical words interleaved seamlessly yet forming the always new and noble meaning.

The recent addition in my favorite list is Paadam from
Nuvvostante Nenodantana(whatever it means), you can listen from here
Here are the lyrics.
Lyrics Paadam from NVNV

I and Nageswararao took good bit of time to understand the meaning last night and finally found that it got deep-rooted ,richly-conveyed meaning, which is hard to understand without lyrics.

And Sirivennela Magic goes on ...

Essentially An Egg Burgy

I'm planning to write book about my cooking experinces and I named it "Essentially an Egg Burgy".

Vikesh Raj will be writing the preface for the book. When I asked him about the same,he said he has not read preface for any book.Well,That means I'm writing a book, whose preface is written by some one who has not read any preface so far.Doesnt that sound special than a statastic like Highest 3rd wicket partnership by India against Australia in India at Eden Gardens on Monday after loosing Sachin Tendulkar ? Never mind.

Well,I'll also be releasing a software that helps in taking cooking related decisions (whose trail version is free).Prepare a nice menu out of the avaialble vegetabnle,Generating the dependency graphs for cooking to minimize TCT(Total Cooking Time) etc.

As I said, I'll writing about my experiences.

Beware Sanjeev Kapoor,I'm coming!

Web Accelerator

Some early thoughts about Google Web Accelerator.

http://webaccelerator.google.com/

Its scary.
Starts a proxy server , caches the results, collects the user data … non sense.
I'm going to uninstall once I get a feel for it.
Still did not see any improvement in the web speeed(showing 0.0 seconds still).

Google is showing its dominance all over.I just hope this will fall under google's not-so-most-used-apps like deskbar.

Linux VCD Blues

This is based on true story. Fun intended. (Due apologies to Vikesh).
Kalyan

--------------------------------------------------

Linux Novice: Hey, Can you play this VCD on Linux?
Linux Expert: Sure. The recent linux distribution comes with lots of media players. It has
Got a separate menu called Multimedia. Audio/Video/DVD what not. I’ll show you.

LinuxExpert tries in all the available players only to find that none of them can play VCD.

Linux Novice: What happened?
Linux Expert: Wait, It might require a new CODEC. That should support both NTSC and PAL.
Also Linux file system is capable of handling both FAT32 and EXT2 filesytsems.
All you need to do it just mount them. And you can extend to any other file system, you know how?
Linux Novice: hmm... No. How?
Linux Expert :Ha ha ..Because you have source code avaialble. Most fascinating aspect of that is you can compile
the kernal. The linux kernal which is heart of the OS is common for all the distributions. You can write
your own device drivers, new servers and what not ?
Linux Novice :But how do you develop those device drivers..Do you have any easy to use IDE ?
Linux Expert :Yes.VI is one.And E-Macs is best IDE.You can write you own scripts to extend E-Macs.
Its LISP based Editor. So embedding Artifical Intelligence is very easy.

Linux Novice :Yah,I know.(grin) I once used it X-Emacs in windows.I could not do a copy/paste so given up.
But What about Multimedia ?
Linux Expert :Linux sound system is simply great. Its actually 24% smarter. It gives a file abstraction /dev/dsp or /dev/sound.
You just do a cat file > /dev/sound , it gets played.
Linux Novice :: Yah, I felt Sound is better.Whenever it can play sound.
Linux always works except in the cases where it does not work.
Linux Expert :It does not work ? Wait .. you have to change /etc/dev/config/users/$yourname/media/sound/audio/silence/config
it will surely work.
Linux Novice :Thats really long name.Is there any UI ?
Linux Expert :Oh.Linux is for experts.Offcourse you can write your own UI.As you know you can compile Linux kernal and write
device drivers and ..
Linux Novice :: But,Should not there be a simple Windowing environment that can play VCD ?
Linux Expert :GUI ? Yes,Linux has a Window server , we call it as X-Server.Its responsible for all the windowing activity. And it simplifies writing
VNC and stuff like that.Do you get it, you can play the movie here and watch it from some where else ...
Linux Novice ::If at all you can play here.(evil sad grin)
Linux Expert :Wait,I'll dowload the latest MPlayer. That can even play DVD.You know what DVDs are meant to be,they have special featuers like
selection of scenes, subtitles and uncut versions.
Linux Novice :But,I've a simple little normal VCD.
Linux Expert :Don't worry I can make DVD out this VCD and play in the DVD player. But the latest advanced multimedia codec for playing MPEG-2 layer
format should be avaialble.I'll download it from internet.
Poor Linux Novice spends money and gets internet connection.
Linux Expert :Good.Let me download the latest kernal and compile it for you.
Linux Novice :Oh..Will you compile it now ?
Linux Expert :Yes.It hardly takes 2 days to compile .And then you can enjoy all the latest features.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LN and LE keeps staring at the scrolling text installion screen admiringly and waits for the completion.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After 3 days, the installation finishes. The enthusiastic LinuxNovice puts the VCD waits eagerly.
LinuxExpert types series of commands.
ps,ls,ls -al,ps -9 1876,cls,cls,mont,unmont,change /etc..../config files,vi.
Linux Expert :Hey , When I gave ./configure,make,make install command I configured it for command line.
This is linux can't run windows. But still you watch VCD.
Linux Novice :WWWWhat ?
Linux Expert :Yah,Just write shell script or may be use python to decode MPEG-2 Video and convert to ASCII and display in text screen
Linux Novice fainted. He wakes up after some time.
Linux Novice : OOOOO...I have another solution ..
Linux Expert :What ?
Linux Novice :Shutdown the system and Start in Windows. You can play there.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PS : I'm not a fan windows either. I equally crib about windows too.

Flavour of the Hour - Collage

Edward De Bono asked me to come out with patterns, whenever possible. Here is one.

"These days I see $1 a lot"

Yah,$1 is Collage now.Collection of diverse things in some disorderly manner.
The Picasa's picture collage , I liked it instantly.Used it many times to show off.

I did not see Flickr's collage of frineds. But I saw the subsequents copies (inspirations)
from livejournals perl scripts.
Enter Yahoo API,they made it public ..test-your-self app.
WEB OF LETTERS.
some one went ahead and brought flash into the business.
AmazTYPE

This does not fall into the same category , I found some pattern here.(Thanks Mr.Bono)
The states which I've been to.I suggested the author to have an option to input "what I've done in the state" to get more personal touch.Hope he implements that.

Another closely related , similar visual represention is here.

End of Textual Collage,

Living in Abundance

These days I live in abundance. Not just sufficient, but more than adequate resources.

I get up at 6,so good long morining time.
80GB hard disk at home, huge (unnecessary)data is welcome.
Practically infinite number of photos, with dig cameras all around.
A variety of books from Understanding Linux kernel to Khana Khajana
A variety of professionally (self) cooked food.

Just wanted a net connection at home, which I'll be getting next month.
I'll blog more regulary then.
